WHO WE ARE
Kate Kirkwood is the founder of Lead-Edu, an EPA and HUD nationally certified
training provider offering RRP Lead Safety certification and related services. Kate
has a Master’s Degree in Business and over 30 years of experience in adult
education. She is an award winning adjunct professor of business, has taught
classes and workshops at several local colleges and is certified to teach Lead
Safety (RRP), Dust Sampling, and Lead Abatement.
She enjoyed a career in corporate training for over 20 years and has served as a
consultant for small and mid- sized businesses around New England. Kate is the
founder of K.Kirkwood Consulting, LLC, the firm that managed the Lead Hazard
Control and Rehabilitation programs for the City of Manchester, NH for 5 years,
and consults for similar programs in surrounding communities. She has written
successful grant applications that brought over $15,000,000 in abatement funds
into NH since 2008. She manages projects for private landlords and for the New
Hampshire Housing Lead Program.
Lead-Edu was chosen by the State of NH Department of Health and Human
Services to complete EPA funded training in several locations around the State in
2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017. In 2014, Kate served as the State’s health promotion
advisor through a special contract and assisted in the writing of the 2014-2017 NH
State Healthy Homes Strategic Plan. In 2015 Lead-Edu was selected to complete a
“train the trainer” program for RRP instructors, and to train EPA Inspectors in
region one.
Kate has been a NH certified lead inspector and risk assessor, as well as a NH
certified Lead Abatement Contractor. Nationally, Kate is an RRP certified
renovator, a Dust Sampling Technician, a HUD certified Healthy Homes Rater,
and a Healthy Homes Specialist certified by the National Center for Healthy
Homes.
Kate is a frequent interviewee for articles, talk shows and conferences on lead
paint regulations and childhood lead poisoning, and is often invited to speak to
groups about the topic. Everyone from real estate investors wanting to know how
a “lead order” will affect their investment, to parents and teachers at a preschool
wanting to understand the health risks, and along the way contractors, painters,
childbirth educators, doctors, builders and community health professionals reach
out to Kate for information. Her childrens book “Skylar Learns About Lead Poisoning”, is available on Amazon, as well as “A Parent’s 5 Step Guide To Lead Poisoning”, which is the first in a series called “Lead Paint Clear and Simple”.
