WHO WE ARE

Kate Kirkwood is the founder of Lead-Edu, an EPA and HUD nationally certified training provider offering RRP Lead Safety certification and related services. Kate has a Master’s Degree in Business and over 30 years of experience in adult education. She is an award winning adjunct professor of business, has taught classes and workshops at several local colleges and is certified to teach Lead Safety (RRP), Dust Sampling, and Lead Abatement.

She enjoyed a career in corporate training for over 20 years and has served as a consultant for small and mid- sized businesses around New England. Kate is the founder of K.Kirkwood Consulting, LLC, the firm that managed the Lead Hazard Control and Rehabilitation programs for the City of Manchester, NH for 5 years, and consults for similar programs in surrounding communities. She has written successful grant applications that brought over $15,000,000 in abatement funds into NH since 2008. She manages projects for private landlords and for the New Hampshire Housing Lead Program.

Lead-Edu was chosen by the State of NH Department of Health and Human Services to complete EPA funded training in several locations around the State in 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017. In 2014, Kate served as the State’s health promotion advisor through a special contract and assisted in the writing of the 2014-2017 NH State Healthy Homes Strategic Plan. In 2015 Lead-Edu was selected to complete a “train the trainer” program for RRP instructors, and to train EPA Inspectors in region one.

Kate has been a NH certified lead inspector and risk assessor, as well as a NH certified Lead Abatement Contractor. Nationally, Kate is an RRP certified renovator, a Dust Sampling Technician, a HUD certified Healthy Homes Rater, and a Healthy Homes Specialist certified by the National Center for Healthy Homes.

Kate is a frequent interviewee for articles, talk shows and conferences on lead paint regulations and childhood lead poisoning, and is often invited to speak to groups about the topic. Everyone from real estate investors wanting to know how a “lead order” will affect their investment, to parents and teachers at a preschool wanting to understand the health risks, and along the way contractors, painters, childbirth educators, doctors, builders and community health professionals reach out to Kate for information. Her childrens book “Skylar Learns About Lead Poisoning”, is available on Amazon, as well as “A Parent’s 5 Step Guide To Lead Poisoning”, which is the first in a series called “Lead Paint Clear and Simple”. Upcoming books will include guides for “A Contractor’s 5 Step Guide To Lead Poisoning“, “A Landlord’s 5 Step Guide To Lead Poisoning“, “A Realtor’s 5 Step Guide To Lead Poisoning” and “An Investor’s 5 Step Guide To Lead Poisoning“.

Kate is available through video and live presentations to help your audience understand how lead paint can affect them, their home, their work and their children. Her Tedx talk “Why We Should Worry About Lead Poisoning in a NEW Homes” is available on YouTube.
